Preventing fires through analytics: Built a team of number crunchers and data scientists to determine buildings most at risk for a serious fire or life safety event in NYC.
Identifying and mitigating risk: Leveraged data to improve building inspection methods for NYC’s nearly 1,000,000 buildings.
Understanding transportation network companies: Led the creation of the world’s first trip records database of for-hire services operating in New York City, including companies like Uber, Lyft, Gett and Via, to discover insights into the behavior of for-hire transportation services.
The power of Hackathons: Spearheaded the first public hackathons using fire data and taxi data.
Process Improvement
Preventing Loss of Life in Building Fires: Conducted extensive interagency operational assessment to improve coordination concerning building demolition, fire safety and asbestos abatement.
Improved how Potholes get Fixed: Managed interagency working group and operational assessment to improve city response to street conditions reported to 311.
Emergency Management
US Army COVID-19 Emergency Response: Established an emergency operations cell to track, monitor and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic across Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar for nearly 30,000 Department of Defense (DoD) personnel located across 30 military installations.
Superstorm Sandy Response (New York City): Oversaw emergency response in all 5 boroughs as part of Joint Task Force Sandy in order to save lives, mitigate suffering, & prevent or mitigate property loss. Coordinated with state and local authorities to provide personnel, equipment, and vehicles to aid response and recovery efforts to evacuate civilians; conduct personnel recovery in areas flooded; deliver emergency response to areas impassable by ambulances; recovered human remains; evacuated nursing homes and other facilities in partnership with FDNY; recovered emergency response vehicles; distributed food, water, & fuel; patrolled NYC in partnership with NYPD during blackout conditions; conducted sector checks of hundreds of residential towers to ensure shut-ins supplied with food, water & medication.
Customer Service
Improving Government Service Centers: Managed multiple citywide customer service oriented projects to improve agency response to customer services initiated through 311.
Mystery Shopping: Coordinated efforts to mystery shop government citizen centers to improve the customer experience.
Stakeholder Engagement
Bringing People Together: Supported effective communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization, including both internal and external stakeholder organizations, to encourage ongoing dialogue around new agency offerings that can make our customers more successful.
Advisory Council: Created data and technology advisory councils leveraging the expertise of academic, non-profit, public and business leaders to inform policy.
Operations
Flood Mitigation: Oversaw development of multi-agency flood mitigation strategy to flood-prone areas of NYC and leveraged data to determine areas of the NYC most prone to flooding.
Government Start-Up: Oversaw the build-out of a brand-new city agency, in a volatile and fast-paced environment, serving the housing, mental health, education, and employment needs for over 210,800 veterans and their families.
Revitalized a stalled Boardwalk Project: Spearheaded effort between state, regional and local governments to revive stalled downtown boardwalk project.
